You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar

To me, this idom,"you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar " means that when we make someone to do or accept somethings , more gentle and lovely words or behaviors than scorld will make him or her to do or follow to the ways which I hope. I think always gentle behaviors with all of heart make good results. In my case, I was a teacher before 5 months ago. I could meet students who had unique and lovely personalities. Most students followed my words very well. But, one of them did not focus on me. After a few weeks later, I could hear the reason why she did not focus on me. She missed a lot her previous teacher. What could make her to see me? At that time I thougt like that. As I think her now, I really loved her because she resembled me. I prasied her a lot even though I knew, to her, it was hard to accept me like her previous teacher. However, at the end of our class, I heared that she told her mother that she was sad to apart with me. I was glad to get her mind. Like this , we can let someone do well with soft words and attitudes than strong voice in our life.

saying easy, but keeping a word isn't.

I had experience that keeping a word or promise is really important and hard. Last October or November, I promised that I would treat Korean delicious food to my neighbors and American friend. Sharing something is one of great happiness in our life. Now, I am learning Enlglish here as a foreign student, also I would like to introduce Korea's beautiful cultures to somebody who I could meet. To me , some Korean foods are easy to make, because I have cooked many times since I have been here. One day, I had conversation with my neighbors, we talked diverse topics, also we found that we all of us love to eat home made foods. At that time, I wanted to cook Korean food, which I never had made, to eat together. So I said them that I would like to treat you Korean food. They really interested in my words. After preparing materials, I could cook it well. A few days later, I met my American friend, Julie. We talked about our daily life and other things too. With glad mind , without thinking, I told her that I would like to cook for you. After getting back home, I realized that I had to do lots of assignments; however, I did not want to broke my words. So I made food again. In my memory, the period was not so good, because I had to keep my words and assignments together. Sometimes, I am so tired because I have to keep my words surely. Before saying or promising, we must consider about if we really can do it withoout concerns. ^-^ Now, I am thinking about what I promised.

Do you know my future??

After I finish language pathology in the graduate unverisity , I would like to have experiences ,which are connected with my major, a lot on the field. Based on those experiences, also, I would like to build my own language pathology clinic in the beautiful natural environment for research or cure. So I hope, I would marry someone who is going to live in similar field in the future. The money ,which I am going to earn with right way, I hope, I will use it for reducing hunger of physical that someone is still experiencing.

Happy Thanks giving Day.

Each Thanks Giving Day which is the 15th day of lunar August, my mom prepares new rice powder to make a kind of Korean rice cake, Songpyeon. After mom finished preparing materials
for songpyeon, all family members sat together around our table to make Songpyeon. My grandmother used to talk us that if we make songpyeon well, you would have a pretty daughter after you marry. My grandma's rice cake was really pretty and delicious. Lots of our relatives visit our home to share talking and some joyful game, Yut, which is a kind of stick game. All inside of our house filled with various food smell: savory Korean pan cakes, sweet songpyeons ,traditional beverage," a sweet rice drink", and etc. Usually, my sister goes back to her workplace earlier than other guests who visit their home for the holiday. So, I was so sad. For the holiday, lots of people head to their hometown at the same time, this brings traffic jam; however. people repeat this event to share their thank on Thanks Giving Break.

A Calm Garden

Under the light or sometimes, strong sunbeams, I could read a book at the garden of house in Iowa city before weather change. In our garden, there are two white wooden chairs. Our garden's size is not large; however, some divese flowers bloomed as if a bride make a shy smile at her groom. Roses are my favorite flower. Sadly, there were no roses. During reading books, I could here song of brid. The sky of Iowa city was really high above our garden. Whenever I was in garden, I felt joy of nature. Now, because of strong and cold weather, it is hard to meet beautiful flower faces. Then my favorite plave is gone? No. I am waiting spring to see the beautiful faces again.

Be lovely like a fall

I grew up in countryside of Korea. Every fall, I could smell of new rice on the field wherever I passed. Deep blue sky, lots of dragonflies flying in the air to here and there and blooming cosmoses on the road gave me a great pleasure to feel fall. There is an interesting story that if someone caught a leaf which is falling from the tree, he or she could meet his destiny in a few period. So, when I was a high school student, me and my friends tried to catch some falling leaves. Sometimes, I think that scene when I pass under the tree. Oh, I have a fun memory. When I was an elementary student, I always drew poster for preventing fire in the mountain in fall, because fall is dry season. A few days ago I wanted to take pictures a big tree having colorful leaves where in front of my house. Also, a red car always is parked beside the tree. They matched perfect. However, now the beautiful leaves are gone. Fortunately, I can still see other beautiful scenes that leaves are dancing with fall wind outside of my room windows. In Iowa city, I could see wonderful landscapes like background of fairy tale stories. Last fall, I did not know that fall passed because I worked so hard. ^^* These days, I can enjoy seeing beautiful leaves.

Give Your Heart.

My house is center of our small town in An myeon do. On the way home, after finishing my work,I could smell good near my home. And then one word came out from my mind. "Who would be today's guests?" My parents really love to talk with neighbors or friends ,and treat something good to them. In my memory, I have hardely seen that there are no people in the evening at our home. So I know something small detail family history of my neighbors. One day, I questioned my mom. " Mom, do you know the reason why lots of neighbors visit our home often?" Mom said to me " Kyung hee, In my opinion , the reason is because Dad has a good personality." Always my mom respects my dad. My parents always discuss something together. My dad has never decided anything by himself whitout my mom's agree.

When I was in a serious problem, My dad told me with grabbing my hand , " Our daughter, Kyung hee , I stand beside you. Do not concern about it. " My dad surpports me and other siblings like those warm words when we have some not good situations. He teaches me words and behaviors with all of your heart can help your friends certainly.


Just hearing the word, family I can take a rest. Therefore my parents show me what family is.

I do not want to make friends with stressor~!

Iowa is my newest friend. I will introduce my friend to you. After arriving here, from one week later
I've visited library. The important thing is not visiting library but seeing rain drops several times in one day. I like rainy days although it is uncomfortable to move. Clear, big and white clouds can let rain fall to the ground. I really like to see the falling rain scene and listening to the falling rain sound. Because I was in area which can avoid falling rain, I might be happy. Unpredictable weather makes me to raise preparation skill.

My friend ,Iowa does not have lots of Korean food. So when I miss Korean food, Iowa teachs me to make other style of cooking. But it does not work to me. These days I really would like to have my mom's meal with my family. Speaking with my family can reduce thinking of Korean food. Aparting from famliy is my stressor. But thankfuly, I knew one thing, I love my family than when I was in Korea. From the moment ,when I start to think of something to sterssor, it will be certainly my stressor in my daily life. So I usually try to think some stressors to positive side. Or I try to do my best in in my daily life. One of my best buffer is sleeping with listening to music such as The way to school, by Noh Young Shim.

My favorite movie genre.

The lion king, Beauty and the beast, Shurek, the ice age, a mermaid princess, Pocahontas, Mulan and the power of one are my favorite movies. Those are animation movies except last one. Last one is about growth of a boy. I like all kind of movie genres dealing with family love, growth of life and happy ending movies.

Now, I would like to tell the lion king that is one of my favorite movies. I cannot remember when I watched it first, but I can remember the all beautiful scenes. The most impressive scene was Simba’s act. He found his father’s big footprint on the ground while he was going to his father to hear father’s scolding. He compared his foot size with fathers. At that time neither he nor I could understand what the scene mean. My parents’ shoes were just too big for me. Now I really miss my family. In this movie, I could enjoy some nice music insulted in the movie. After Simba’s father died he took a journey passing through desert and jungle with his friends. An exciting music, Hacunamatata, could listen while I was watching it. Finally Simba became a great lion king and he got back his kingdom from his bad uncle. Surely good thing can win at the end. People can catch the hidden meaning in the movie although it was animation movie.

Not complicated but containing valuable lesson in the movie, this is my favorite genre.

Hello~ Chicago.

When I hear Chicago I think the famous pop group, Chicao and its famous song , Hard to say I'm sorry. Everyplace where I have never been makes my heart throb. Arriving at the Chicago I could see many Gothic style buildings on the street. It was very impressive to me. Because there are lots of modern rectangle buildings not old style buildings in Korea. Thanks to Eunyoung we went to a nice pizza store and we could enjoy rich flavor of chicago pizza for lunch. Our next destination was China town. Before visiting China town, I though I could feel a piece of atmosphere of China from the place. At a bus stop, we discussed way to China town. When we decided to return another station, timely China town direction bus came to our stop. One of our group members was chinese. I could find a glad expression on her face during China town trip. I heard that many chinese cosider red color with symbol of luck. When we entered an oriental article shops, I saw lots of splender china clothes for childeren, hats, bags, and fans. They are composed not only red color but other birght vivid color. One exciting pleasure of traveling is that we can do alive experience. When I was a high school student I studied 始皇帝, emperor Si and cavalrymen scruptures from his tomb. I saw that kind of scrupture at a curio store. The scruptures looked arive. I felt a little bit scary. But it must be interesting experience. I hope a China town in Chicago will last long long time for people who miss China culture.
We did not have ebough time to look around whole Chicago. Next time I will visit the art institue certainly. Van Gogh wait for me please.

Looking inside of the USA ...

As you know Iowa City has a wonderful nature environment. All kind of trees, houses, and several small or big parks are arranged very well. Also clouds above the sky really look like cotton candies." So pretty." So when I walk around the town I really feel good because of the beautiful landscapes. If I were a painter I could compose a picture with all scenery. I think nature of Korea is similar to the USs but things that make up the nature are smaller than America.

Now I'd like to talk other similarities and differences between Korea and US. When I went to the Iowa City Public Library, I was surprised, because the floor of the library is made by materials for absorbing sound. So I could walk without concerning for making noise with my footstep sound. If we were at the Korean library we would be more careful when we needed to move other place, because the floor material is usually made by wood or tile. One of my pleasures for visiting the library is meeting children. In the Iowa City Public library , there is a section for children. They can choose many kinds of books for children with their parents. They can read books in a good condition since there are some comfortable sofas. The library seems to help make happy family relationships. The public library where I was in Korea does not have a special section for children. I hope that in a few years, every Korean library will equip some section for children.The other thing that I felt from the library, was that many old people visit the library to read books or magazines. In Korea, the old come to the library to learn something like calligraphy, computer skills and drawing a picture. The library provides them education and leisure time.

Generally the facilities of public buildings are clean and convenient. Whenever I go to the rest room, I do not need to make a wry face. If you visit Korea you will experience clean facilities too.

The first greeting with Cedar rapids airport.

Before coming here in Iowa city, I had to prepare lots of information from check in flight to

housing. Preparing for all the process to departure made me really excited since I had never

been to abroad. I got most of the information from Cyworld online club meeting for the university of

Iowa Korean students. By the departuring day, I questioned someone who had helped me through

online contact, wheather I can carry digital camera into the airplane or not. Finally I got on in the

Cedar rapids airport against all odds. My original plan was riding taxi to Pam's house who is my

landlord. But at the airoport I met many korean students who were waiting for their friends. Luckily I

could receive riding. Also I saw someone who had help me a lot. I felt delighted so much at

greeting the unexpected person. All people who were in there were nice and gentle. I spend the

first night in the new country like that. I will nerver forget. Thank you all.
